Melon is set to introduce the highly anticipated ‘Global-K Chart‘ this June, marking a new era in how worldwide fans track their favorite artists.
The initiative brings together three powerhouses in Asian music streaming: Kakao Entertainment’s Melon in Korea, Tencent Music Entertainment Group in China, and LINE MUSIC in Japan. Following a memorandum of understanding signed last December, the platforms will combine their extensive streaming data to create what they describe as “The Global K-POP Standard.”

Unlike traditional charts limited to single markets, the Global-K Chart aims to reflect authentic K-pop popularity across key regions by analyzing verified usage from millions of listeners. Industry insiders believe this collaboration will provide a more accurate and comprehensive snapshot of international trends, benefiting artists, labels, and fans alike.
To build excitement, Melon began rolling out a series of artist celebration videos on May 26. NCT leader Taeyong kicked things off, followed by girl group LE SSERAFIM, rising boy group ALPHA DRIVE ONE, and AND2BLE. The relay-style messages have been warmly received by fans across social media, signaling strong anticipation for the new chart.
“Melon has long served as the heart of K-pop in Korea for over two decades,” a Melon representative noted. “By partnering with Tencent Music and LINE MUSIC, we’re creating a chart that truly captures the global pulse of K-pop.”
Tencent Music operates major services like QQ Music, Kugou, and Kuwo, dominating the Chinese and Southeast Asian markets, while LINE MUSIC integrates deeply with Japan’s popular LINE messaging ecosystem, reaching over 100 million users.
This three-nation alliance is expected to deliver fresh value to the entire K-pop ecosystem, offering artists better visibility and helping fans discover new music with greater confidence.
As the June launch approaches, the music industry will be watching closely to see how this unified chart reshapes the way we measure success in the world’s most dynamic pop genre.
