Park Donggyu, 20, gained public recognition after competing on Mnet’s 2025 survival program Boys Planet 2, where he finished in 15th place. Although he narrowly missed a project-group debut through the show, IST Entertainment confirmed this week that he will instead debut under its upcoming in-house group. The announcement sparked immediate excitement among fans who followed his journey on the program.

TUNEXX’s debut comes at a pivotal time for IST Entertainment. The agency, home to The Boyz since 2017, has faced recent turbulence, including the disbandment of boy group ATBO in December 2025 and the departure of girl group Weeekly following contract disputes. These developments have raised questions among fans about the company’s long-term artist management strategies.
Still, IST appears determined to reset its direction with TUNEXX. Industry sources indicate the group has been in training for over a year, with members focusing on performance, songwriting, and multilingual communication to target both domestic and international markets.
Online reaction has been mixed but highly engaged. Supporters of Park Donggyu celebrated his long-awaited debut opportunity, circulating congratulatory messages and fan-made debut posters across social platforms. At the same time, some fans expressed cautious optimism, referencing IST’s recent management track record. Popular fan comments jokingly asked, “We’re getting Donggyu’s debut but at what cost?” reflecting both humor and concern.
Music industry analysts note that mid-sized agencies face increasing pressure to deliver strong debut concepts in a saturated K-pop landscape. For TUNEXX, success may hinge on whether IST can present a clear musical identity and consistent promotional strategy from the start.
While official details about TUNEXX’s debut album, concept photos, or music style have yet to be revealed, IST confirmed that teaser content will begin rolling out in February. Expectations are already building among fans eager to see how the company positions its newest group.
As March approaches, TUNEXX stands at the intersection of anticipation and uncertainty a fresh start not only for Park Donggyu, but for IST Entertainment’s next chapter in K-pop’s ever-evolving scene.
