While the executive described the initiative as a move toward “innovation and sustainability” in an increasingly competitive global market, the reaction from fans and industry insiders was swift and divided. Critics expressed concern that creative authenticity could be compromised if technology begins replacing human input in music creation, choreography planning, or artist interactions.

Online communities flooded social platforms with calls for transparency, demanding assurances that AI would remain a supportive tool rather than a substitute for artists and staff. Some fans also questioned potential data privacy risks tied to AI-driven fan engagement systems.

Music industry analysts note that SM Entertainment is among the first major K-pop agencies to openly declare large-scale AI integration, positioning the company at the center of a wider conversation about technology’s role in entertainment. Smaller agencies have reportedly begun monitoring public response before considering similar systems.

In response to the backlash, SM Entertainment stated that AI will be used to “enhance efficiency, not replace creativity,” and promised further communication with fans and stakeholders.

As K-pop continues evolving in the digital era, the controversy highlights a growing tension between technological advancement and artistic integrity.
