South Korean actor and ASTRO member Cha Eunwoo is currently undergoing a tax review following a 20 billion won (approximately $14.7 million) assessment issued by national tax authorities. The notice alleges income reporting discrepancies involving a company registered under a family member’s name, reportedly established to manage portions of his earnings.

His agency, Fantagio, clarified that the assessment is not final and that formal legal procedures are now in progress to contest the claim. In a brief statement, the company emphasized its cooperation with authorities and stated that an official appeal has been filed to correct what it describes as a “difference in interpretation of tax regulations.”
Cha, who is presently serving mandatory military duty in a military band unit, addressed fans through social media, apologizing for causing concern and expressing trust that the matter will be resolved transparently. His message drew widespread support from fans, who urged patience while legal processes continue.

The case has also sparked broader public discussion. A civic petition circulating online has called for a review of Cha’s continued placement in a military band assignment, citing concerns over public image and accountability. However, fan communities countered with their own petitions defending his right to due process and warning against premature judgment before legal conclusions are reached.
The Korean Taxpayer’s Association released a commentary reminding the public that tax assessments are subject to appeal and that individuals should not be presumed guilty before administrative reviews are completed.
As the appeal proceeds, Cha Eunwoo remains active in military service and has no scheduled entertainment activities until his discharge.
Observers expect further updates once tax authorities complete their review in the coming months.
