SM Entertainment says it’s cracking down on online harassment. The company’s filed formal complaints and started collecting digital evidence from posts that spread insults, false claims, and coordinated attacks on social media and online forums. They’re not backing down either protecting their artists comes first, and they’re ready to file more lawsuits as they dig deeper.

This all blew up after Siwon posted some Chinese idioms online, not long after a court ruling involving former president Yoon Suk Yeol. The phrases themselves were pretty neutral, just general moral advice. But some people online saw them as political jabs, and that set off a wave of debates and nasty comments.

SM Entertainment isn’t letting this slide. They made it clear: no deals, no forgiveness for anyone involved. They’re going after civil and criminal charges, showing the industry’s getting serious about protecting artists from online abuse.
According to SM Entertainment:
“We would like to inform you of the progress of legal action to protect the rights and interests of our artist Choi Siwon.
We are gravely aware of the seriousness of the malicious posts, including personal attacks and insults, that have been continuously and repeatedly occurring recently
We are continuously gathering evidence regarding the act of spreading false information or posting mocking and derogatory posts on online communities and social media. We plan to gradually expand the complaint process.
We will respond strongly with civil and criminal legal action without any leniency or agreement.”
All of this brought back memories of an earlier incident where Siwon offered condolences after U.S. activist Charlie Kirk died. Back then, Siwon said he spoke out of empathy, not because of politics he just felt for a lost life.
People watching the industry say this case really shows how tricky things have gotten for celebrities online. Every comment can be twisted or blown out of proportion, especially when politics get involved. With SM Entertainment taking a hard stance, Siwon’s situation could end up setting the tone for how other agencies fight back against cyberbullying, making it clear they’ll defend both their artists’ freedom and their right to speak up.
