Things got heated online after the father of viral dancer Daniela Avanzini of KATSEYE, landed in hot water for comments he made about his daughter and BLACKPINK Lisa. It all started with a Facebook poll that compared Daniela and Lisa. Rafael jumped in, saying Daniela had a “major advantage” because of her Latina background. That line didn’t go over well fans were quick to call him out.
Screenshots of the whole exchange spread fast. People slammed Rafael for dragging ethnicity into a conversation about dance skills, saying it just wasn’t necessary. Lisa’s fans rushed to her defense, pointing out she’s been a standout in K-pop since BLACKPINK’s debut in 2016 and has the training and track record to prove it.
This wasn’t the first time Rafael’s comments made waves. Some dug up his past posts things he said about Daniela’s content and some remarks about KATSEYE member Manon during her break from the group. All the backlash finally pushed Rafael to delete his Instagram.
In the middle of all this drama, fans from both Daniela’s and KATSEYE’s camps tried to steer things in a better direction. They argued that Daniela’s growing career shouldn’t get lost in family drama or internet fights. Her talent stands on its own, and that’s what should matter.
People watching the industry say this whole thing just shows how sensitive cross-cultural debates have become, especially with so many global fanbases now. It’s easy for a single comment to blow up and turn into an all-out fan war. As Daniela’s star rises, she and artists like her have to juggle the spotlight, online noise, and their own boundaries. That’s no small feat these days.
