Police have sent a South Korean YouTuber’s case to prosecutors after he accused the late actress Kim Sae-ron’s former manager of financial misconduct and mishandling sensitive information. The YouTuber, Kwon Young-chan, put out several videos where he called out the manager known publicly as “Mr. K” for allegedly misusing hospital bills from Kim’s treatment and looking at her medical records without permission after she died in February 2025.
Mr. K had managed Kim Sae-ron from January 2024 until just two months before her passing. He denied all of Kwon’s claims and filed a formal complaint against the YouTuber in June 2025. After an investigation in Seoul’s Seocho district, police decided Kwon broke South Korea’s Information and Communications Network Act, which covers online defamation. Now, it’s up to prosecutors to decide whether to indict him.
Police haven’t shared much about what they found, saying the case is still active. In Korea, handing a case to prosecutors doesn’t mean someone is guilty there’s more to work through before any final decision.
All this has caught the public’s eye, mostly because the accusations are so personal and people are already debating how far online commentary should go. Legal experts point out that South Korea has tough defamation laws, especially when people post unverified claims online.
Kim Sae-ron started acting as a child and later became well-known for her work in film and TV. Her death earlier this year led to a big outpouring of grief across the entertainment world.
For now, both Kwon and Mr. K are waiting for the prosecutors’ next move. Meanwhile, the case has turned into another flashpoint in the larger conversation about responsibility and rumor in the digital age especially when public figures are involved.
