Japanese K‑Pop Trainee Vanishes Days Before Debut, South Korean Police Launch Fraud Probe

A Japanese K-pop trainee, referred to only as “A,” has disappeared just weeks before what was meant to be his debut, prompting South Korean authorities to open a fraud investigation and impose an exit‑control order on the 20‑something foreign idol‑to‑be. The young man was slated to debut in a six‑member boy group that had already completed its music video shoot and unveiled member profiles, but he abruptly cut off contact in late December 2025, leaving behind a short message saying “trust has been broken.”

As per Yonhap News. The agency later proceeded with a five‑member debut lineup, while reporting A to police over allegations that he signed a second exclusive contract with a different label while still under his original agreement in Seoul. The company claims roughly 57.4 million won (about $39,000) in damages, citing training, content production, and living‑cost expenditures.
Authorities in Seoul’s Yeongdeungpo District have placed A under an overseas travel ban and are actively searching for him, believing he remains within South Korea. The case has reignited scrutiny over contract transparency and financial risks for small agencies managing overseas trainees.
