Police Near Conclusion in Long-Running Investigations into HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has indicated that investigations into HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk for alleged fraudulent irregular transactions and independent lawmaker Kim Byung-ki over 13 suspicions, including illegal political funds, are finally nearing completion after months of delays.

At a regular press conference on April 6, 2026, Seoul Police Commissioner Park Jeong-bo stated that legal reviews for Bang’s case are “almost finished” and that a conclusion is expected “in the near future.” Regarding Kim’s case, he noted that several allegations have progressed enough for judgment, and authorities plan to wrap up those first rather than forwarding all 13 suspicions to prosecutors at once.

Bang Si-hyuk has been under investigation for one year and four months on charges related to HYBE’s 2019 IPO process. Police allege he misled existing shareholders, leading to the sale of approximately 19 billion won worth of shares by downplaying delays in the listing. Searches were conducted at the Korea Exchange in June 2025 and HYBE headquarters in July 2025, with Bang summoned five times as a suspect between September and November 2025.

Kim Byung-ki, meanwhile, faced his fifth interrogation on February 26 over suspicions including receipt of 30 million won in illegal political funds (later returned), attempts to obstruct police probes into his wife’s corporate card misuse, unfair personnel requests, and tacit acceptance of 100 million won in election bribery.

The prolonged probes have drawn public attention due to the high profiles of those involved. Commissioner Park emphasized that forwarding cases to prosecutors does not automatically relate to arrest warrants, which remain under separate review.
Neither Bang nor Kim has publicly commented on the latest police update. The developments come as HYBE continues its operations amid BTS’s full-group comeback preparations later this year.

Police are expected to announce formal conclusions on the viable allegations soon, potentially bringing clarity to cases that have lingered without resolution for over a year.
