NCT’s Doyoung Surprises Brother Gong Myung with a Generous Car Gift While Serving in the Military

NCT Doyoung has shown that brotherly love doesn’t pause even during mandatory military service. Actor Gong Myung, Doyoung’s older brother, recently opened up on the popular YouTube variety show Pinggyego (hosted by Yoo Jae-suk) about receiving an extraordinary birthday present: a new car, courtesy of his younger sibling.

During the episode aired on June 6, Gong Myung joined co-stars from the upcoming Netflix film Husbands (including Jin Seon-kyu, Yoon Kyung-ho, and Lee Da-hee) for a lively chat. He casually dropped the news while noting Doyoung couldn’t attend a family preview because of his service. “It was my birthday in May, and my little brother got me a car,” Gong Myung shared with a mix of pride and amusement. Yoo Jae-suk’s shocked reaction “A soldier bought his brother a car?!” mirrored what many viewers felt.

Gong Myung recounted Doyoung’s humble request: “He told me, ‘Hyung, you should mention this somewhere.’” In response, the actor stood up dramatically on the show, bowing in gratitude: “Thank you to the chairman of our family household. I’ll cherish it for a long time.” The moment was equal parts heartfelt and hilarious, highlighting the close bond between the siblings.

Doyoung, a talented vocalist and performer with NCT 127 and NCT U, enlisted in the army on December 8, 2025, and is currently fulfilling his duties as an active-duty soldier. Gong Myung, known for roles in dramas like Reply 1988 and films showcasing his versatile acting, has long been a supportive big brother in an industry that demands much from young stars.

Industry insiders note that such gestures reflect the strong family values many K-pop artists maintain despite fame. “Idols often come from tight-knit families that provide emotional anchors,” says entertainment analyst Kim Ji-eun. “Doyoung’s gift speaks to financial success earned through years of dedication and the desire to give back during a period of separation.”

Fans have flooded social media with warm reactions, calling it a “wholesome military flex” and sharing stories of their own sibling support systems. One NCTzen shared online: “Doyoung always talked about his family seeing this makes me respect him more as both an artist and a person.”

As Husbands gears up for its June 19 Netflix release, this story adds a personal layer to the buzz. In an era where celebrity news often focuses on scandals, moments like these remind us of the human side behind the spotlight: loyalty, generosity, and the quiet ways families stay connected across distances.

Doyoung’s thoughtful surprise not only brightened his brother’s year but also warmed hearts across the fandom.
