Global superstar BoA will conclude her 25-year partnership with SM Entertainment, the agency that launched her career and helped establish her as one of the genre’s most influential figures.
SM Entertainment released an official statement today confirming that after months of extensive discussions, both BoA and the company have reached a mutual agreement to part ways when her current contract expires at the end of January. The news comes as the singer celebrates a quarter-century in the industry a milestone she marked with a sold-out anniversary concert in Seoul last December.
Debuting in 2000 at just 13 years old with ID; Peace B, BoA quickly broke barriers as the first K-pop artist to achieve major success in Japan, topping Oricon charts and becoming a household name across Asia. She later expanded to the U.S. market, releasing her English-language album BoA in 2009 and performing at iconic venues including Madison Square Garden. Beyond her music career, she has served as a mentor on survival programs like Produce 101 and Girls Planet 999, shaping the next generation of K-pop talent.

After a long period of in-depth discussions with BoA, we have mutually agreed to conclude our 25-year journey together as of December 31.
BoA debuted in 2000 at the age of 13, and even now, after passing her 25th debut anniversary, she has received great love from global music fans as the “icon of overseas expansion” and the “Star of Asia,” pioneering the Korean Wave across Asia, and has become a role model for numerous junior artists leading the K-pop boom.
As a pioneer and trailblazer, the journey BoA has walked was able to shine by leaving behind remarkable achievements and unparalleled records thanks to her relentless effort and passion.
From BoA’s special debut that wrote a new history in the Korean popular music industry to the present, where she has grown into a No.1 artist and producer, we remember every moment, and it was a great honor for our company to be able to accompany her brilliant footsteps.
For 25 years, BoA has been, in name and reality, SM’s pride, honor, and symbol.
