In a historic win that underscores global entertainment’s shifting landscape, “Golden” the breakout track from Netflix’s animated blockbuster KPop Demon Hunters has clinched the Best Original Song Motion Picture award at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, marking the first time a K-pop inspired musical number has claimed the honor.

Performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami as the film’s fictional girl group HUNTR/X, the pulsating bilingual anthem beat out heavyweight contenders including Avatar: Fire and Ash’s orchestral ballad Ember’s Call, the gritty rock track Forgiven No More from Sinners, and the long-anticipated For Good from Universal’s Wicked adaptation.
KPop Demon Hunters, directed by Maggie Kang (Trolls World Tour) and Chris Appelhans (The Addams Family), premiered in July 2025 and quickly became Netflix’s most-watched movie of all time, logging over 1.2 billion hours viewed in its first three months. The film follows five members of a rising K-pop act who balance stage performances with secret missions to protect Seoul from supernatural threats – a premise that resonated with audiences across 190 countries.
“We built Golden to feel both authentic to K-pop’s rhythmic DNA and cinematic enough to carry pivotal scenes in the film,” said composer and producer Lee Ji-woo in a backstage interview at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. “Working with EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami brought layers of personality to the track – their chemistry mirrored exactly what we wanted HUNTR/X to represent.”
The song dominated music charts worldwide for 20 consecutive weeks, with its Korean-English hooks and dynamic production driving over 800 million streams on Spotify alone. While fans took to social media with celebrations – #GoldenGlobeWinner trended for 18 hours across Twitter and TikTok – some industry observers debated whether the win signaled a permanent shift in how Hollywood recognizes non-Western musical contributions.
In related developments, Netflix announced today that a HUNTR/X concert special, filmed during a surprise showcase in Seoul last December, will premiere exclusively on the platform this March. The special will feature live performances of Golden and six other tracks from the film’s soundtrack, plus behind-the-scenes footage of the cast’s vocal and choreography training.
